Brooklyn ST60
Side table
This side table is a cartography of Brooklyn unfolds in oxidized cast brass. Each region emerges through a distinct oxidation, creating a nuanced topography of textures and tones, from deep umbers to warm browns, interrupted by subtle green oxides that trace the borough’s green spaces. Fine, polished brass lines cut through the surface, mapping boundaries with a luminous precision that recalls both infrastructure and ornament.
The irregularities of casting, the deliberate shifts in patina, and the layering of textures evoke a terrain shaped as much by process as by place. It is a study in material transformation, where the language of mapping becomes sculptural. Each detail reveals a thorough, almost archaeological approach to making, where craft is both preserved and reimagined.
