paris 40
This low table is crafted from cast brass in two distinct sections, reflecting a topographic study of Paris . A green oxide strip separates the sections, symbolizing the Seine River running through the city.
The mirror finished brass connectors unite the two sections, each representing one of the 25 bridges spanning the Seine. These connectors are both functional and referential. The overall surface is divided into areas that represent the different districts of Paris. Each district is depicted with its own specific texture and graphic relief, offering clear visual differentiation and a structured layout reminiscent of an architectural map.
Further, the table integrates representations of Paris’s emblematic historic monuments. These motifs are emphasized in the composition, linking the design to the city’s storied architectural heritage.
Altogether, the table serves as a functional piece of furniture ,an architectural statement, and sculpture, merging the noble materiality of the brass that was used throughout all the sculptures in the historic Paris city, with a thoughtful reinterpretation its urban landscape.
